Brussels Airport handled 70,257 tonnes of cargo in September 2026, an increase of 6.8% compared with the same month last year. The growth was mainly driven by a 37.2% rise in trucked cargo volumes, while flown cargo volumes increased by 2.5%.

Cargo carried on passenger aircraft rose by 11.4%. However, full-freighter and integrator cargo volumes declined by 1.1% and 0.2%, respectively.

Asia, Latin America and North America were the main import regions in September. For exports, Asia and Latin America ranked highest, followed by Africa.

Between January and September 2026, Brussels Airport handled more than 627,000 tonnes of cargo, an increase of 8.1% compared with the same period in 2025. Cargo flight movements also increased by 3.2% in September compared with the same month last year.

The cargo growth comes as Brussels Airport continues to develop its cargo network and infrastructure. In September, the airport signed a memorandum of understanding with Hyderabad International Airport to strengthen air cargo connectivity between Belgium and India, with a focus on pharmaceutical and life sciences shipments. The partnership will explore opportunities to improve connectivity and promote knowledge sharing between the two airports.

In June, Worldwide Flight Services (WFS) secured a five-year contract with GEODIS at Brussels Airport. Under the agreement, WFS took over GEODIS' freight consolidation and deconsolidation activities at the airport. The services include cargo preparation, security screening, shipment handling and onward road transport. WFS also operates a GDP-certified facility at Brussels Airport with temperature-controlled space for pharmaceutical cargo.

The airport also began construction of a new 14,000-square-metre logistics facility in June to support the expansion of Yusen Logistics and Air Promotions Agencies (APA). Scheduled for completion in 2027, the facility will provide warehouse and office space for the two companies. Yusen Logistics handles pharmaceutical logistics, while APA focuses on general cargo operations.
