Brussels Airport has marked the start of construction of a new logistics facility in its cargo zone, advancing a broader programme to modernise cargo infrastructure and support the expansion plans of long-standing logistics partners operating at the airport.

The project was officially launched with a first pillar ceremony on June 4, 2026. The new second-line logistics facility will be built on a 14,000-square-metre site in the eastern section of the cargo zone, covering an area roughly equivalent to two football fields. Scheduled for completion in 2027, the development will include warehouse and office space divided into two separate units designed to meet the operational requirements of future occupants.

Upon completion, the facility will house Yusen Logistics and Air Promotions Agencies (APA), both of which have maintained a presence in Brussels Airport’s cargo community for many years. Yusen Logistics is active in pharmaceutical logistics, while APA focuses on general cargo operations. The companies are seeking additional capacity as they expand their activities, and the airport said the new facility will provide infrastructure aligned with current operational and sustainability requirements.

The development forms part of Brussels Airport’s strategy to strengthen its cargo ecosystem and reinforce its position as a logistics gateway in Europe. The airport has invested in cargo infrastructure recently with a focus on creating facilities that can accommodate changing supply chain demands while improving efficiency across the cargo zone.

Airport officials said the project demonstrates a commitment to supporting companies already operating on the site by providing space better suited to their growth plans and operational needs. The redevelopment will also enhance the utilisation of available land in an area already heavily used for logistics activities.

The new building is being designed to achieve Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) Excellent certification, an international standard for sustainable and energy-efficient buildings. Sustainability features planned for the facility include a wood beam construction, solar panels, heat pumps, rain gardens, a rainwater storage tank, electric vehicle charging stations and bicycle parking facilities.

The project also includes approximately 40 car parking spaces, split equally between the two units, along with loading bays to support cargo handling operations.

The site selected for the development became available following the demolition of an obsolete structure. Brussels Airport said the redevelopment reflects an approach focused on optimising land use while ensuring that infrastructure keeps pace with the evolving needs of the logistics sector.

The facility is expected to help use space better in the cargo area and give Yusen Logistics and APA more room to grow their operations in the pharmaceutical and general cargo areas.
