AAT renews Hong Kong airport franchise for 15 years
The cargo terminal operator plans to increase its cargo handling capacity to 2 million tonnes as part of its long-term development plans.
Asia Airfreight Terminal (AAT) has renewed its franchise agreement with Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) to operate at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) for another 15 years, from 2028 to 2043.
AAT, a subsidiary of SATS and an affiliate of Eastern Option, said the renewal would support the airport's continued growth and its role as an international aviation hub.
The renewal follows a similar agreement secured by Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals (Hactl), another cargo terminal operator at HKIA, which has extended its franchise until 2043. Hactl will invest at least HK$1 billion in infrastructure upgrades, technology and sustainability measures under its renewed agreement.
The renewal comes following the full commissioning of HKIA's Three-Runway System and improvements in multimodal connectivity across the Greater Bay Area.
Mike Chew, Chief Executive Officer of AAT, said the company would continue to invest in infrastructure, technology and operational capabilities to support the long-term development of Hong Kong's air cargo industry.
The company also plans to increase its cargo handling capacity to 2 million tonnes.
AAT has operated at HKIA under a franchise awarded by AAHK since 1998. The company provides air cargo handling and documentation processing services to airlines.
Its facilities include AAT COOLPORT, which holds IATA CEIV Pharma, IATA CEIV Fresh and World Health Organization Good Distribution Practices for pharmaceutical products accreditations.
