In a strategic move to strengthen its position in the Americas, global General Sales and Services Agent (GSSA) FlyUs Aviation Group (FlyUs) has officially opened a brand-new office in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Concurrently, the aviation services provider announced it has been appointed to exclusively represent Air Canada in this critical Caribbean and United States territory, managing essential cargo operations between the island and the carrier's primary Canadian hub.

This new operational base will enable FlyUs to actively support and manage Air Canada’s cargo capacity on three highly anticipated weekly freighter flights. These specialised services will operate directly between the Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) in San Juan and Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ). By connecting directly into Air Canada’s vast and established global network via Toronto, shippers from Puerto Rico will gain unprecedented access to international markets across Europe, Asia, and beyond.

The decision to establish a physical presence in San Juan is heavily driven by the island's unique and lucrative industrial landscape, specifically its dominance in the healthcare logistics sector. Puerto Rico is widely recognised as a premier location for life sciences and pharmaceutical manufacturing, requiring highly specialised cold-chain logistics to safely export vital medical products worldwide.

“Puerto Rico is the number one bioscience manufacturing hub in the US by export volume, so there is a significant requirement for reliable temperature-controlled air cargo capacity from the island,” said Carlo de Haas, President and Chief Executive Officer, FlyUs.

To meet these rigorous industry standards, FlyUs is leveraging its deep institutional knowledge of specialised freight operations. Ensuring product integrity for temperature-sensitive shipments is paramount for global airlines and forwarders alike.

“FlyUs has extensive experience handling temperature-controlled cargo, particularly pharmaceuticals, perishables, and flowers, so our team is well-positioned to support Air Canada and its customers with these sensitive shipments.”

The newly announced Puerto Rico appointment is not an isolated agreement but rather the evolution of a highly successful, longstanding relationship between the GSSA and the Canadian flag carrier. FlyUs currently represents Air Canada in multiple vital markets globally, including Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Ecuador, and several countries stretching across Central America.

“FlyUs has proven to be a trusted partner through the strong results they have achieved as Air Canada’s GSA in multiple markets,” said Matthieu Casey, Managing Director, Commercial – Cargo, Air Canada.

“As our confidence in the partnership has grown, extending that relationship to Puerto Rico became a logical next step.

“Being able to provide reliable uplift from one of the US’s most significant export markets is an important part of our cargo offering, and we are glad to have FlyUs on board to support us in Puerto Rico.”

With this latest Caribbean inauguration, FlyUs has significantly widened its operational scope. The organisation now proudly represents a total of 24 prominent airlines across 28 distinct global locations. Furthermore, the GSSA shows no signs of slowing its momentum, with additional strategic office openings already planned for the remainder of 2026 and rolling into 2027 to capture emerging cargo demands globally.

“The opening of our Puerto Rico office is another step in growing the FlyUs global footprint and strengthening our ability to support airline partners wherever they need us,” added de Haas.

“Our strategy is to continue expanding into markets where our specialist cargo knowledge can add value, and Puerto Rico gives us another base from which to do that.”

Industry stakeholders looking to connect with the expanding logistics group will have the opportunity to engage with the team later this month. FlyUs confirmed it will be actively participating in the highly anticipated International Air Cargo Association’s Air Cargo Forum, which is scheduled to take place in Miami, Florida from the 26th to the 29th of October 2026.
