Frankfurt Airport handled 174,773 metric tonnes of cargo, comprising airfreight and airmail, in September 2026, an increase of 2.5% year-on-year, according to traffic figures released by airport operator Fraport.

The September growth follows a 2.9% year-on-year increase in cargo volumes in August, when the airport handled 179,400 metric tonnes of airfreight and airmail.

Fraport is also working to develop Frankfurt Airport's cargo business through its Cargo Development team, which is responsible for infrastructure development, digitalisation, process improvements and cargo marketing in collaboration with airport partners.

In September, Felix Toepsch was appointed Vice President of Cargo Development at Fraport AG, with responsibility for advancing the cargo business at Frankfurt Airport. He joined Fraport in 2013 and has worked across business development, process development and innovation projects.

Before his appointment, Toepsch served as Executive Director of Air Cargo Community Frankfurt from January 2023. In that role, he worked with more than 115 companies across the air freight process chain and supported cargo process standardisation, including a common-use truck slot booking system.

Fraport's Cargo Development team is also responsible for implementing the airport's CargoHub masterplan, which focuses on optimising cargo space, developing infrastructure and introducing digital and process innovations.
