Frankfurt Airport recorded growth in cargo volumes in August 2026, while passenger traffic remained largely stable. The rise in freight highlights continued demand for air cargo services at Frankfurt, one of Europe’s major cargo hubs, despite relatively flat passenger numbers.

Frankfurt Airport recorded a 2.9 percent year-on-year increase in cargo volumes, comprising airfreight and airmail, to 179,400 metric tonnes during the reporting month. However, aircraft movements declined 4.6 percent to 40,968 takeoffs and landings. Total maximum takeoff weights (MTOW) stood at around 2.6 million metric tonnes, down 1.6 percent compared with August 2025.

Recently, Felix Toepsch has been appointed Vice President of Cargo Development at Fraport AG, effective immediately, taking responsibility for advancing the cargo business at Frankfurt Airport.
