Lufthansa Cargo and CEVA Logistics have signed a binding agreement for the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel, formalising the Memorandum of Understanding they announced in the summer. CEVA committed to using SAF credited in 2025, equal to an 8,000-tonne reduction in CO₂ emissions, with the agreement running until the end of 2028.

The deal was signed on 21 November at CEVA Logistics’ Airfreight Annual Strategic Partners Council in Paris. Both companies described the long-term framework agreement as the result of a trusted relationship shaped by openness, continuous exchange and mutual learning.

Loïc Gay, Global Air & Ocean Products VP at CEVA Logistics, said the agreement marked an important step in its sustainable partnership with Lufthansa Cargo. He noted that it would help CEVA reduce its emissions and build more sustainable supply chains, adding that transparency, clear standards and reliable certifications were essential.

Lufthansa Cargo said the framework underscored its close cooperation with CEVA, especially on future-focused areas such as sustainability. Anand Kulkarni, Head of Global Markets, said CEVA’s decision to use SAF on a large scale showed its strong commitment to decarbonising air freight. He added that climate protection required firm partnerships and decisive action, and that the agreement supported further shared progress.

The deal also creates room for deeper cooperation on SAF-related measures. The fuel used is produced only from waste and residual materials, is palm-oil free and meets leading international standards. Emission reductions are confirmed to CEVA through audited Emission Mitigation Certificates, based on Lufthansa Cargo’s audited Proof of Sustainability.

Both companies said the agreement sends a clear signal for verifiable CO₂ reduction and strengthens their long-term work on sustainable logistics. It also fits within a wider sustainability partnership covering knowledge sharing, circular economy solutions and joint innovation and research efforts.
