FedEx sends earthquake relief flight to Venezuela

FedEx has launched a dedicated humanitarian relief flight to Venezuela to assist communities affected by the devastating earthquakes that struck the country on June 24.

The flight, operated through FedEx’s integrated air and ground network, is carrying necessity kits provided by Global Empowerment Mission (GEM). The humanitarian supplies are expected to support approximately 10,000 people impacted by the catastrophe, providing critical aid to affected families and communities.

Smith, chief operating officer, International, and chief executive officer, Airline, FedEx, said, “The tireless dedication and united effort of our team members are what make a humanitarian mission like this possible. We are proud to help GEM deliver essential supplies to the people of Venezuela.”

The relief shipment was transported aboard a FedEx Boeing 767 that departed from Miami International Airport and arrived in Caracas, Venezuela, on Sunday, July 19. The mission marked the first FedEx aircraft operation into Venezuela under recently authorised U.S. earthquake-relief measures, underscoring the extensive coordination required among humanitarian organisations, government authorities, and transportation providers to respond effectively in the aftermath of a natural disaster.

The kits are designed to provide shelf-stable meals and address urgent hygiene and sanitation needs that often arise when homes, utilities, and essential community services are damaged or disrupted. Each kit contains water, hydration powder, non-perishable food, and hygiene items, which will be distributed to families and communities in the state of La Guaira.
