FedEx Corp. has created FedEx Life Sciences, a standalone organisation dedicated to moving pharmaceuticals, medical devices, biologics, and clinical trial materials. The move responds to healthcare supply chains that are growing more specialised, global, and time-sensitive.

Nick Gennari, who joined FedEx in 1992 and took charge of the healthcare vertical in 2024, will lead the new unit as president of healthcare and life sciences. Under his watch, FedEx's healthcare revenue has grown to approximately $10 billion globally.

"Transporting vital healthcare deliveries requires more than just standard logistics. It depends upon an intelligent, highly specialised network built for patient-critical needs," said Brie Carere, executive vice president and chief customer officer, FedEx. "FedEx Life Sciences brings together our global network, advanced monitoring, and specialised expertise to make supply chains smarter and more resilient."

The new organisation builds on infrastructure FedEx has put in place over the past year. In 2025, the carrier secured IATA CEIV Pharma certification, covering ground handling across its air hubs and ramps. FedEx has also appointed a vice president of global quality, healthcare, and life sciences, and expanded to six Life Sciences Centers worldwide. These are located in Memphis (USA), Veldhoven (Netherlands), Mumbai (India), Singapore, Seoul (South Korea) and Tokyo (Japan).

Network connectivity has also improved. A direct flight between Indianapolis and Dublin now links two major pharmaceutical manufacturing hubs across the Atlantic. FedEx Surround, the carrier's machine-learning-based monitoring platform, underpins these assets by offering end-to-end visibility, flagging disruptions, and enabling intervention on temperature- and time-sensitive shipments.

"Healthcare supply chains are becoming more complex, and the stakes are deeply personal," Gennari said. "FedEx Life Sciences gives our customers a more focused team, stronger coordination, and specialised expertise to help them move critical healthcare shipments with confidence."
