Teleport to establish a new cargo hub at Avalon airport

Avalon Airport Melbourne and Teleport have entered into a strategic partnership to establish Teleport’s latest operations hub at Avalon Airport, strengthening the airport’s position as an international cargo gateway.

The partnership will expand Teleport’s air network and support the movement of cargo and e-commerce shipments between key Asian trade lanes and Oceania through Avalon’s dedicated air freight infrastructure.

The new hub is expected to enable faster and more efficient delivery of international e-commerce shipments into Australia, supporting Teleport’s expanding customer base, including major Chinese e-commerce marketplaces.

Australia’s online marketplace sector continues to grow, with consumers spending nearly $18.9 billion on pure online marketplace platforms in 2025, a 13% year-on-year increase.

Ari Suss, Chief Executive Officer of Avalon Airport Melbourne, said the partnership underscored the airport’s growing role in international freight and logistics and would further strengthen its connectivity with major Asian markets.

Teleport currently transports cargo to Australia’s major airports in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth from key Asian markets including China, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia and Vietnam.

The establishment of Avalon Airport as a strategic operations hub will mark the next phase of Teleport’s network expansion across Oceania, the Middle East and Europe, supported by its airline partners. The partnership will provide an alternative international freight gateway to handle growing e-commerce volumes, while potentially diversifying Australia’s freight capacity and strengthening Victoria’s international trade connectivity.

Teleport plans to begin the first phase of operations at Avalon in the second half of 2026, initially handling e-commerce shipments from China. The company currently operates across more than 290 cities in 80 countries throughout Asia Pacific and other markets, supported by a network of more than 55 airline partners.

It is a Southeast Asia-focused cross-border e-commerce logistics specialist headquartered in Kuala Lumpur and operates an integrated air network connecting more than 295 destinations across major global markets. The company runs an asset-light network supported by the extensive AirAsia passenger network, its fleet of Airbus A321 freighters and more than 55 airline partners.

In 2025, Teleport handled a record 347,885 tonnes of cargo, representing an 18% year-on-year increase. Parcel volumes nearly doubled during the year, reaching 167 million, up 99% compared with 2024.
