Frankfurt Airport cargo rises slightly in September 2025

Frankfurt Airport’s cargo operations edged up in September 2025, with total airfreight and airmail reaching 170,505 metric tons, marking a 0.6% increase compared to the same month last year, according to Fraport’s latest traffic report. Aircraft movements also rose by 5.5%, with 41,997 takeoffs and landings recorded, while accumulated maximum takeoff weights (MTOWs) climbed 2.9% to around 2.5 million metric tons.
The growth comes as Frankfurt continues to serve as Germany’s key international gateway, handling a steady flow of cargo alongside passenger traffic. While passenger numbers also increased, reaching approximately 6.0 million in September, the modest cargo rise highlights the airport’s ongoing role in global freight movement.
Across Fraport’s Group airports worldwide, cargo figures were not specified, but passenger traffic trends indicate recovery and growth in most locations. In South America, Fraport’s Brazilian airports at Fortaleza and Porto Alegre served a combined 1.2 million passengers, a sharp year-on-year increase largely due to last year’s temporary closure of Porto Alegre following severe floods. In Europe, Ljubljana Airport in Slovenia saw traffic rise by 13.1%, while Greek regional airports collectively handled 5.5 million passengers, up 2.8%.
