FedEx opens new freight hub at East Midlands to boost global links
The 19,000 sq. ft facility enhances safety, speeds up freight handling, and strengthens FedEx’s UK network.;
Federal Express Corporation (FedEx), the world’s largest express transportation company, has opened a new 19,000 sq. ft purpose-built freight facility at East Midlands Airport. The site is designed to strengthen both its UK and international network, giving customers greater access to the United States, European Union, Asia-Pacific and global markets.
The new facility operates separately from existing parcel sorting operations. It is built to improve freight handling efficiency and provide a more streamlined process for preparing shipments. With multiple trailer docks and recessed building pits, the site also brings enhanced safety and additional capacity, allowing FedEx to handle rising demand across major trade lanes.
Steve Johnson, Managing Director, UK Air Operations at FedEx, said the development reflects the company’s commitment to expanding in the UK. “This new freight facility builds on the momentum of our recent expansion in Manchester and demonstrates our ongoing commitment to strengthening our operations across the UK. Together, these commitments create a more resilient and connected FedEx network, enabling us to support the increasing flow of goods between the East Midlands, the Northwest, and international markets,” he said.
For businesses in the East Midlands, FedEx said the added capacity and safety features will mean faster and more efficient connections to key markets worldwide, helping them seize growth opportunities in an evolving global trade environment.
FedEx operates in more than 220 countries and territories, shipping 17 million packages daily and connecting 2.5 million shippers with 200 million customers. The company has been present in the UK since 1984, with three air hubs across the country, and continues to invest in infrastructure to improve speed, safety and efficiency.
