EDGE and Etihad Airways sign major airfreight agreement at MIITE 2026
EDGE Group consolidates its global airfreight operations under Etihad Airways to bolster the UAE’s industrial supply chain and national logistics.
In a move that underscores the UAE’s rapid evolution into a self-sustaining industrial powerhouse, EDGE has officially signed a Global Air Carrier Services Agreement with Etihad Airways. The signing took place against the high-octane backdrop of the Make it in the Emirates (MIITE 2026) forum in Abu Dhabi, a venue that has become synonymous with the nation’s ambitious "Operation 300bn" industrial strategy. This landmark deal effectively centralizes the airfreight requirements of one of the world's fastest-growing defense and advanced technology groups under the wings of the national carrier, signaling a new era of logistical synergy within the region.
For EDGE, the agreement is far more than a simple logistical pivot; it is a calculated effort to unify the supply chain operations of its sprawling and diverse portfolio, which now encompasses 35 distinct entities.
EDGE ensures that its high-tech exports, ranging from autonomous systems and precision-guided munitions to electronic warfare solutions, reach international markets through a secure, reliable, and streamlined national channel. This consolidation is a key component of EDGE’s broader strategy to prioritise local partnerships, ensuring that as the group expands its footprint across the globe, it continues to reinvest in and rely on the UAE's own world-class institutional capabilities.
The partnership highlights a maturing ecosystem where the UAE’s industrial giants no longer look outward for essential services, but rather inward, reinforcing a circular domestic economy that supports long-term sovereign resilience. By prioritising local capabilities, EDGE is ensuring that its international commercial success translates into direct growth and operational data for the UAE’s aviation and logistics sectors.
Hamad Al Marar, Managing Director and CEO of EDGE Group, noted the strategic weight of the collaboration: "This agreement reflects our commitment to fostering meaningful local partnerships that create lasting value for the UAE. By working with Etihad Airways, we are not only optimising our own operations but contributing to the growth of a truly integrated national industrial base."
Operating in the defense and advanced technology sectors requires a level of precision and security that goes far beyond standard commercial shipping. Etihad Cargo has invested heavily in the infrastructure and certifications necessary to handle sensitive, high-value, and time-critical hardware. This proven reliability was a deciding factor in the decision to consolidate EDGE’s vast logistics needs under one roof.
Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Airways, emphasised the trust inherent in this deal: “Etihad Cargo provides the reliability, security and global reach needed to serve advanced industrial and defence operations while strengthening national capability through local partnerships. Consolidating EDGE’s airfreight operations with Etihad Cargo reflects a high level of trust in the UAE’s national carrier to support complex, high-value and time-critical requirements at scale.”
As MIITE 2026 continues to showcase the UAE's manufacturing prowess to a global audience, this agreement stands as a primary testament to the country's unified approach. It demonstrates a future where technology, defense, and aviation fly in formation toward a diversified, knowledge-based economic future.
