Turkish Cargo resumes operations at Maastricht Aachen Airport

Turkish Cargo has resumed operations at Maastricht Aachen Airport (MST) with a twice-weekly service on the Quito-Miami-Maastricht-Istanbul route. The flights transport flowers, perishable goods, and general cargo.
MST confirmed the return of Turkish Cargo, citing its ground handling efficiency and certification as an Authorised Economic Operator (AEO), which facilitates faster customs clearance. The flights operate as part of Turkish Cargo’s broader European network, supporting the movement of goods from Latin America to Europe and beyond.
Dean Boljuncic, Head of Commercial Development at Maastricht Aachen Airport, said the airport’s specialised in-house cargo hub was chosen for its handling capacity and operational efficiency. “Our specialised in-house cargo hub was chosen for its fast and efficient service, a one-stop shop model that bolsters our handling capacity and customised provisions,” he said. MST’s operational model allows for faster turnaround times, which has contributed to Turkish Cargo’s decision to return.
The Royal Schiphol Group invested in a 40 per per centake in MST in 2023. The airport is known for its ability to move shipments quickly to Aalsmeer, home to the world’s largest flower auction. Flowers arriving at MST are transported by truck within two hours after landing due to the airport’s location next to the highway and minimal dwell times.
MST has no slot restrictions and aims to maintain steady cargo volume growth this year. “Our customer-orientated approach along with our cooperation and operational excellence are qualities that we pride ourselves on,, and we are proud that these qualities have encouraged Turkish Cargo to rejoin,” said Boljuncic. The airport previously received an excellence award from Turkish Airlines, recognising its handling standards. “It’s amazing to see the airline return because of our operational excellence,” he added.
