Torsten Wefers has been appointed Head Cargo Commercial Europe (CEMEAI) at Swissport, marking his return to a senior commercial leadership role in the air cargo sector following his exit from Liège Airport. Based in Cologne, he will oversee Swissport’s cargo commercial strategy across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and India, with a focus on strengthening partnerships, expanding the network, and driving regional growth.

Wefers joins Swissport after a four-year tenure as Vice President Sales and Marketing at Liège Airport, where he played a central role in the airport’s commercial and strategic development. During his time there, he led efforts in route development, partnerships and long-term planning, while also overseeing commercial and airground service units and serving on the airport’s management committee.

Under his leadership, Liège Airport increased its cargo throughput from about one million tonnes in 2023 to around 1.32 million tonnes in 2025, alongside expanding its cargo network and advancing infrastructure planning under the Masterplan 2040 programme. He also contributed to initiatives such as the launch of the Cargoland brand and LGG Connect, aimed at strengthening the airport’s cargo ecosystem and stakeholder collaboration.

Prior to his tenure at Liège Airport, Wefers held several roles across the air cargo and logistics sector, building experience in commercial strategy, airline relations and cargo operations. His background includes working with global logistics players and developing expertise in network planning, business development and stakeholder management across international markets.
