MSC Air Cargo launches Milan–Shanghai scheduled freighter service
The airline will operate a Boeing 777-200F on the route from March 3, strengthening Asia–Europe air cargo connectivity.
MSC Air Cargo has announced the launch of its inaugural scheduled service between Milan Malpensa and Shanghai Pudong, marking a key step in strengthening its Asia–Europe air cargo network. The first flight on the MXP–PVG route is scheduled to operate on March 3, 2026, using one of the company’s Boeing 777-200 freighters.
The new service establishes a direct connection between Milan Malpensa and Shanghai Pudong International Airport and responds to growing demand for reliable long-haul air cargo capacity on major Asia–Europe trade lanes. The Boeing 777-200 freighter is recognised as one of the most efficient aircraft in air cargo operations.
The launch also reinforces MSC Air Cargo’s long-term commitment to Shanghai Pudong Airport, which the company views as a strategic gateway in its global air cargo network. Shanghai plays a central role in linking Asian markets with Europe and other global destinations, particularly for time-sensitive and specialised cargo.
Building on this development, MSC Air Cargo continues to expand its presence in Asia through strategic partnerships across the air cargo value chain. In late 2025, the company signed two Memoranda of Understanding to support this growth. One agreement with SF Express extends an existing collaboration to enhance air cargo cooperation and connectivity on key Asia–Europe routes. The second agreement was signed with Shanghai Airport Authority Logistics Development Co, a subsidiary of Shanghai Airport Authority (AVINEX), to support the development of Shanghai Pudong as a core hub within MSC Air Cargo’s Asia-Pacific network.
According to MSC Air Cargo, these agreements reflect a shared focus on improving operational efficiency, using complementary capabilities, and supporting the long-term growth of international air cargo activities in the region.
Commenting on the launch, Jannie Davel, Chief Executive Officer of MSC Air Cargo, said the new MXP–PVG service represents an important step in strengthening the company’s long-haul network between Europe and Asia. He said Shanghai Pudong is a key gateway for global trade and that the route reflects MSC Air Cargo’s focus on providing consistent capacity, reliable operations and high service standards on critical Asia–Europe corridors.
With the addition of new capacity, MSC Air Cargo continues to develop its operational capabilities and specialised product offerings, including Shipped Fresh, Shipped Pharma and Shipped Special. These products support sectors such as automotive, high-tech, perishables, aerospace and other time-critical industries. The company said it remains focused on building a resilient, long-term air cargo network based on operational reliability, customer needs and strategic partnerships across key global markets.
