GMR launches India’s first airside reefer truck at Hyderabad Airport

GMR Aero Cargo & Logistics has launched India's first airside reefer truck at Hyderabad Airport to ensure unbroken temperature control for cargo moving between the terminal and aircraft. This new vehicle addresses a critical gap in the cold chain by eliminating temperature fluctuations during ramp transfers, a common challenge for sensitive shipments.

The truck maintains a specific temperature range of +2°C to +25°C, making it suitable for transporting pharmaceuticals, fresh produce, seafood, meat, and other perishable goods. Built on a Tata chassis with a 10-tonne payload capacity, the vehicle features a 22 ft × 9 ft × 6.6 ft insulated box that can accommodate two lower-deck Unit Load Devices (ULDs). This capacity is designed to improve operational efficiency by reducing the number of trips required during aircraft loading.

Pradeep Panicker, CEO of GHIAL, stated that the new equipment ensures cold-chain integrity from terminal to aircraft, supporting India's growing role as a global hub for pharmaceuticals and perishables. Sanjiv Edward, CEO of GMR Aero Cargo & Logistics, added that the initiative highlights the company's priority to deliver customised solutions for its customers.

To ensure cargo safety, the truck is equipped with a manual ball deck with guide rollers, internal safety bollards, and anti-slip flooring. It also features thermal strip curtains to minimise temperature loss during door operations and a fresh-air ventilation system. For continuous protection, the vehicle includes real-time digital monitoring of temperature and humidity, as well as a backup power supply for uninterrupted refrigeration.
