DSV has launched a new air freight charter service named "Shanghai Star" that will operate multiple weekly round-trip flights between Chicago, United States, and Shanghai, China, starting May 13, 2025. The service aims to streamline international shipping for businesses, offering guaranteed capacity and specialised handling for oversized, hazardous, and temperature-sensitive goods. DSV’s new route is expected to support global trade by providing faster transit times and more control over deliveries.

The "Shanghai Star" marks DSV's first regularly scheduled air cargo charter to Shanghai, with capacity fully controlled by DSV to minimise touchpoints. This expansion reflects the company's strategy to strengthen its air freight network and support businesses needing time-sensitive deliveries.

"Shanghai Star reinforces the strength of our air freight charter network, exemplifying our commitment to reliable and efficient cargo transport—ensuring timely deliveries and supporting global logistics with unwavering dedication," said Stefan Krikken, Vice President, Air Freight, Global at DSV.

The new route is designed to connect key sectors in the United States with markets in Asia, providing businesses with a reliable air freight option amid growing global trade demands.

DSV, a global transport and logistics company, operates in over 90 countries with nearly 160,000 employees, moving millions of shipments every year. The company aims to create long-term value for its customers, employees, shareholders, and society through sustainable business practises.

In early 2021, DSV expanded its air charter network with three new intercontinental routes to address capacity shortages caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. These included a weekly service from Luxembourg to São Paulo, a four-times-weekly round roundtrip between Luxembourg and Johannesburg, and a weekly route between Shanghai and Chicago’s Rockford Airport. Together, these routes added significant capacity across five continents.

In September 2023, DSV and Qatar Airways Cargo announced a strategic partnership to enhance North America's connectivity to the Middle East, with a particular focus on the oil and gas sector. The partnership introduced a new air charter route, 'Gateway Star', connecting Mexico City to Doha via Huntsville, U.S., and Luxembourg. The route, operated twice weekly with Boeing 777 freighters, provides 200 tonnes of cargo capacity per week.

Recently, DSV completed its €14.3 billion acquisition of DB Schenker, creating a global logistics giant with €40.3 billion in annual revenue and nearly 160,000 employees. The deal, partially financed through a €10 billion fundraising in 2024, is expected to deliver DKK 9 billion in annual synergies by 2028.
