Blue Dart Express has completed 30 years of aviation operations, marking a milestone in the company's air express network that has supported time-definite deliveries across India since 1996.
The company said its aviation operations have been central to its integrated express logistics network, enabling next-day and under-24-hour delivery services while supporting sectors including life sciences, banking and financial services, manufacturing, automobiles, e-commerce and small and medium enterprises.
Over the past three decades, Blue Dart's aviation network has supported more than 215,000 flights and handled over 2.05 million tonnes of air cargo. The company said the scale of its operations has been sustained through a network supported by pilots, engineers, operations personnel, safety and security teams, and other support staff.
The aviation division has also played a role during periods of national demand, including the movement of vaccines, personal protective equipment and other essential supplies during the COVID-19 pandemic. The company said it remains focused on supporting supply chains and facilitating the movement of goods as India continues to expand its economy and logistics infrastructure.
Commenting on the milestone, Balfour Manuel, Managing Director, Blue Dart Express Limited, said, “Blue Dart’s aviation capability has been a key enabler of our time-definite delivery promise, supporting next-day and under-24-hour delivery commitments across India." " It has strengthened the speed, reliability and certainty that customers associate with Blue Dart, while connecting businesses, markets and communities across the country. This capability continues to set Blue Dart apart in India’s logistics landscape and remains central to our commitment to service excellence.”
Blue Dart operates a dedicated fleet of eight Boeing 737 and 757 freighters that form part of its logistics network. The company said the fleet has supported the movement of millions of shipments over the years and has helped improve connectivity between metropolitan centres and emerging markets.
Nikhil B. Ved, Managing Director, Blue Dart Aviation Limited, said the anniversary reflects three decades of operational performance and stakeholder collaboration. “Completing 30 years of aviation operations is a major turning point in Blue Dart’s journey. We have defined this journey through operational excellence, safety, trusted collaboration, and a relentless focus on customer needs. Above all, it reflects the dedication of our employees and stakeholders, along with the continued support of regulatory authorities, airport partners and service providers. As we enter the next decade, our focus remains on strengthening capabilities, leveraging technology and building a future-ready aviation network that supports India’s evolving logistics ecosystem.”
The milestone comes at a time when air cargo continues to play an increasing role in supporting India's manufacturing, retail and e-commerce sectors. Dedicated freighter operations are essential for domestic express logistics, providing reliable delivery times and meeting supply chain needs in a wide range of locations.
As it enters its fourth decade of aviation operations, Blue Dart said it will continue to focus on strengthening network resilience, improving operational efficiencies, expanding the use of technology and automation, and supporting the future growth of India's logistics ecosystem.
