Air France KLM Martinair Cargo and DHL Global Forwarding have renewed their strategic partnership to expand the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel and speed up the decarbonisation of air freight, signing a new three-year framework agreement covering 2025 to 2027.
For 2025, the partnership targets a reduction of 35,000 tonnes of CO2-equivalent. The renewed agreement is the largest annual SAF partnership signed by Air France KLM Martinair Cargo to date, highlighting the scale of the collaboration and the long-term commitment of both companies to lower-carbon aviation. Additional SAF volumes and related emissions reductions for 2026 and 2027 will be defined as the partnership progresses.
The new contract builds on a previous three-year agreement under which DHL reduced 77,595 tonnes of CO2-equivalent between 2022 and 2024. That collaboration also supported customers in making measurable progress towards their science-based carbon-reduction targets.
Since 2020, Air France KLM Martinair Cargo has developed customer-focused SAF programmes, while DHL has integrated SAF into its GoGreen Plus service to support its climate goals. Together, the companies combine experience and a shared approach to advancing the adoption of low-carbon fuels.
By extending the partnership, both companies said they are reinforcing the importance of long-term collaboration in accelerating the aviation industry’s transition to low-carbon solutions.
GertJan Roelands, SVP Commercial at Air France KLM Martinair Cargo, said the renewed agreement reflects shared ambition, mutual trust and a continued commitment to scaling SAF solutions across the air freight value chain.
Henk Venema, EVP Global Airfreight at DHL Global Forwarding, said the framework agreement demonstrates how collaborative decarbonisation can work in air freight, adding that predictability, scalability and transparency are key for sustainable aviation fuels to make a meaningful impact.
