Glasgow Prestwick Airport has launched a new direct cargo route to Shanghai Pudong International Airport, expanding its China network and giving Scottish exporters access to one of Asia’s major freight hubs. The new scheduled service comes as Air China Cargo shifts three of its four weekly Boeing 777 cargo flights from Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport to Shanghai while continuing to operate 11 scheduled flights each week to and from Prestwick.

Ian Forgie, Chief Executive Officer, Glasgow Prestwick Airport, said the new route would provide cargo customers with greater access across mainland China and support growing e-commerce traffic into the United Kingdom. He added that the service also creates a new trade lane for Scottish exporters, including those shipping premium seafood and other time-sensitive goods into Asia.

Forgie said the launch follows a year of cargo growth at the airport, which now handles 15 weekly scheduled services to and from mainland China and three from Hong Kong. He added that Prestwick has processed more than 25 million e-commerce parcels since May 2025 in partnership with Royal Mail and EVRi and recently recorded more than one million kilograms of Scottish salmon exports since January 2026.
