American Airlines Group announced the election of John W. Dietrich to its board of directors, where he will serve on the Audit Committee and Finance Committee. He brings 35 years of experience across aviation and air cargo, marked by operational and financial leadership.

At Atlas Air Worldwide, Dietrich held numerous senior leadership roles over 28 years, including President and CEO and a seat on its board of directors. He was named President in 2019, having previously served as COO overseeing the company's global operations. Earlier in his career, he was General Counsel for Atlas and spent over a decade at United Airlines, largely as an attorney.

He most recently served as Executive Vice President and CFO of FedEx Corporation from 2023 to 2026, leading the company's global finance organization and driving efficiency, cost discipline and long-term value creation initiatives.

American's Chairman Greg Smith welcomed Dietrich's appointment. "John possesses a distinguished professional background and a proven track record over his 35 years of aerospace leadership," Smith said. He added that Dietrich's experience in managing complex, capital-intensive operations, along with his insights into financial discipline, risk management and governance, would strengthen the board as it focuses on long-term performance and shareholder value.

American's CEO Robert Isom said Dietrich's background aligns operational and financial performance. "His experience leading global aviation and cargo businesses and his focus on execution and accountability will be a valuable addition to our board," Isom said.

Dietrich remains active across the industry. He chairs the National Defense Transportation Association and sits on the boards of AAR Corporation and First Horizon Corporation. He is a former chairman of the National Air Carrier Association and a former member of the IATA Board of Governors.

He holds a bachelor's degree from Southern Illinois University and graduated cum laude from the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law.

American Airlines, tracing its roots to a 1926 air mail carrier, operates more than 6,000 daily flights to over 350 destinations in more than 60 countries, serving over 200 million customers a year with a workforce of 130,000 aviation professionals.
