Air France KLM Martinair Cargo (AFKLMP) is expanding the use of artificial intelligence across its commercial operations as the carrier seeks to automate processes, improve customer interactions and support decision-making across its cargo business.

The company stated that it is integrating AI into functions such as booking, pricing, customer service, sales support, forecasting, and commercial decision-making. The initiative is part of what AFKLMP describes as a "bionic model", which combines technology with human expertise to improve operational efficiency while allowing employees to focus on higher-value tasks.

As part of this strategy, AFKLMP has introduced a new AI-powered Auto-Fill feature within its myCargo platform. The capability enables customers to copy shipment details from emails or other unstructured text sources and paste them directly into the booking system. The AI engine then identifies and extracts shipment information such as dimensions, weight and number of pieces before automatically populating the relevant booking fields.

The company said the feature is designed to reduce manual data entry, allowing customers to create bookings more quickly while improving accuracy and reducing administrative workloads.

Alongside Auto-Fill, AFKLMP is also rolling out an AI-powered auto-quote capability. The functionality automatically generates spot quotations for customer requests submitted through myCargo or via email. By shortening response times, the carrier expects customers to respond more quickly to market opportunities and improve service levels.

The latest developments form part of AFKLMP's broader effort to build a digital business-to-business customer experience that reflects growing expectations for speed, convenience and intelligence in online interactions.

GertJan Roelands, Senior Vice President Commercial at Air France-KLM-Martinair Cargo, said: “AI will be one of the key accelerators of the next phase of our commercial transformation. We believe AI has the potential to fundamentally reshape how customers search, book, manage, and interact with air cargo services.

The introduction of AI-powered capabilities such as Auto-Fill and Auto Quote demonstrates how technology can simplify complex processes, improve speed and accuracy, and create a more seamless customer experience.

However, this transformation is only the beginning. We see AI playing an increasingly important role across the entire customer journey, from personalised recommendations to predictive service and intelligent decision support.

By combining advanced technology with the expertise of our people, we are building the next generation of customer experience in air cargo while creating greater value for both our customers and our business.”

The carrier said it is developing additional AI-driven solutions that will be introduced over time as part of its wider focus on innovation, customer centricity and commercial performance.

The move reflects a broader trend across the air cargo sector, where airlines, handlers and technology providers are increasingly deploying artificial intelligence to streamline booking processes, improve pricing decisions and strengthen customer engagement. As digitalisation becomes a priority across the logistics industry, cargo carriers are seeking to reduce manual intervention while providing faster and more responsive services to shippers and freight forwarders.

Air France KLM Martinair Cargo serves as the dedicated cargo arm of the Air France-KLM Group, operating through the combined passenger and freighter networks of Air France, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and Martinair. The carrier's network covers more than 210 destinations worldwide and supports a range of cargo segments, including general freight, perishables, pharmaceuticals and high-value shipments.
