March 19, 2018: Bart Pouwels, the current director business development cargo, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, will be taking on his new role from April 1.

Pouwels, will be leading the dedicated cargo team within the newly formed aviation department of Schiphol. He will be reporting to Maaike van der Windt, head of aviation marketing, cargo, and customer experience.

“I am dedicated to air freight, and I look forward to using my experience to ensure the value of air cargo at Schiphol is recognised in the future,” said Pouwels.

He has been associated with Amsterdam Airport Schiphol since 2008, and has about 20 years of experience in the air freight sector.

Pouwels started his career with Jet Services as key account manager, and subsequently moved to DHL, where he spent ten years as industry manager express & freight.

The new department at Schiphol will comprise five teams, including cargo, route and business development, traffic analysis and forecasting, marketing & communications; and customer experience.

“Bart is a valuable part of the cargo team, and he, along with Saskia van Pelt and Ferry van der Ent, will continue to focus and support the air cargo industry, and continue our cargo community initiatives,” said van der Windt.

“Our cargo mission is to connect the Netherlands, and shape Europe’s smartest cargo hub. Integrating cargo into a bigger division will put cargo closer to the heart of our organisation, as it will increase its proximity to the airport’s management board,” said van der Windt.

Along with the Schiphol Cargo team, Bart has worked on projects, such as slot allocation, aeronautical affairs, and airline account management. He has been instrumental in driving Schiphol’s digitalisation of perishables and cool chain cargo flows, including the recent data sharing initiative by the Holland Flower Alliance.
