Royal Air Maroc Cargo has celebrated 35 years of continuous service at Brussels Airport, reaffirming its long-standing role in linking Morocco, Africa, and Europe through one of its most strategic gateways. Since its first cargo flight to Brussels in 1990, the Moroccan carrier has turned the Belgian capital into a vital hub for intercontinental trade flows.

A reception marking this milestone took place on 22 October at Brussels Airport, attended by senior executives from Royal Air Maroc Cargo, Brussels Airport Company, Globe Air Cargo GSA, freight forwarders, partner organisations, and the media. The event highlighted the strength of the airline’s partnership with Brussels Airport and its contribution to the airport’s cargo ecosystem.

Over the decades, Royal Air Maroc Cargo has invested steadily in its Brussels operations, doubling its main-deck capacity with the addition of a Boeing 767 freighter. The airline now operates three weekly flights between Casablanca (CMN) and Brussels (BRU), transporting more than 4,300 tonnes of cargo annually with an average load factor of 85% in 2025.

Brussels Airport’s strategic position and strong European connectivity have made it a key consolidation point for cargo flows originating across the continent. The top commodities shipped from Brussels are industrial machinery and equipment, automotive spare parts, and pharmaceutical and healthcare products that reflect Europe’s industrial strength and Morocco’s growing importance as a logistics gateway for Africa. Shipments from Brussels connect efficiently via Casablanca to major African destinations including Dakar, Ouagadougou, and Bamako.

The Casablanca–Brussels route remains crucial for customers in both regions, ensuring reliability and competitive transit times. Brussels serves as Royal Air Maroc Cargo’s preferred European hub for Africa-bound shipments, with 74% of exports from BRU destined for the continent. The success of this route underlines the airport’s central location in Europe, robust infrastructure, and effective collaboration with airline partners.

“Thirty-five years at Brussels Airport is a testimony to the trust built with our customers, partners, and the Belgian logistics community,” said Yassine Berrada, Vice-President Cargo at Royal Air Maroc. “This route is essential to our network, and we remain fully committed to delivering the reliability, efficiency, and customer care that our partners expect. Together with Brussels Airport, we will continue connecting Africa to its principal European market for many years to come.”

Looking ahead, Royal Air Maroc Cargo aims to strengthen its European network through greater agility and digital innovation. The carrier’s partnerships with cargo.one and CargoAi, signed in 2024 and 2025, are enhancing real-time visibility and enabling 24/7 global booking access. These digital initiatives, combined with operational upgrades at Brussels, including streamlined processes and live shipment status sharing are improving service quality and reinforcing the company’s commitment to customer satisfaction.
