FedEx launches direct Korea-Taiwan flight to meet cargo surge
New route boosts high-tech trade, enhances reliability, and expands capacity for growing Korea-Taiwan cargo demand.

In response to the surging demand for air cargo in Asia, FedEx has launched a new direct flight route between South Korea and Taiwan, bolstering its global air network and strengthening one of the region’s most vital high-tech trade lanes. This strategic move aims to support the growing exchange of semiconductors, electronics, and e-commerce goods between the two markets.
The new direct connection links the FedEx Incheon Gateway in South Korea with the FedEx Taipei Gateway in Taiwan and operates seven times a week. This is the first-ever direct FedEx flight between the two markets, offering exporters and importers enhanced reliability, increased capacity, and improved delivery timelines. Businesses in South Korea will now benefit from extended call-in cut-off and gateway drop-off times by up to 3.5 hours when using FedEx International Priority Freight and FedEx International Priority Economy services.
Wonbin Park, Managing Director of FedEx Korea, emphasized the strategic importance of the move: “The new direct flight underscores our commitment to our customers by supporting the growing exchange between South Korea and Taiwan, especially in electronics, semiconductors, and e-commerce fueled by K-culture goods. Capacity, flexibility, and reliability are crucial for building resilient, competitive supply chains.”
South Korea and Taiwan are both global leaders in the semiconductor industry, a sector experiencing rapid expansion driven by the global adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. According to South Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE), semiconductor exports hit a record high of USD 141.9 billion in 2024. From January to November 2024, the proportion of chip exports to Taiwan jumped from 6.4% in 2020 to 14.5%, reflecting the increasing interdependence between both economies in AI-related tech.
The new route is part of FedEx’s broader initiative to enhance its Asia Pacific air network. It follows other key expansions, including the launch of a direct flight from Singapore to Anchorage, U.S., in April 2025, and another route connecting Asia Pacific with India and Europe in December 2024.
By strengthening its intra-Asia connectivity, FedEx is not only meeting rising regional logistics demands but also paving the way for smoother, faster, and more reliable trade between two of Asia’s most technologically advanced economies.
