DHL Global Forwarding has launched its DHL consolidated clearance service for U.S. imports, offering a streamlined customs solution for e-commerce and retail businesses navigating today’s complex trade environment. The service consolidates multiple shipments under a single entry, helping businesses reduce costs, speed up clearance, and remain compliant amid evolving U.S. tariff policies and regulatory demands.

The new service is aimed at importers, particularly in fast-moving consumer sectors, transitioning from de minimis clearance to formal or informal entry for high-volume operations. Greg Nichols, Senior Vice President of Global Customs at DHL Global Forwarding, said the service allows retailers to simplify customs processes, cut costs, and stay ahead of regulatory changes without advanced technology requirements. He highlighted its importance during peak seasons such as Black Friday and the holiday period, when efficiency and compliance are critical.

The launch comes as global trade patterns shift, with U.S. tariffs reaching levels not seen since the 1930s and North America’s trade growth forecast dropping from 2.7% to 1.5% annually. Retailers are responding by diversifying sourcing, using Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) terms, and adopting new import models. At the same time, cross-border e-commerce continues to grow, with the global market expected to reach $4.81 trillion by 2032, according to DHL’s 2025 E-Commerce Trends Report.

DHL’s service addresses challenges such as unexpected customs charges and complex returns, which are among the main reasons consumers abandon cross-border purchases. The company sees the platform as part of a broader strategy to provide scalable, tech-enabled logistics solutions that meet the realities of trade volatility and rising consumer expectations. This complements DHL Global Forwarding’s ongoing investments in customs innovation, including the DHL TradeConnect digital environment, which provides enhanced visibility, analytics, and control over customs activities worldwide.
