Swissport renews Zurich Airport ground handling licence
The renewal ensures continuity of ground services for airlines at Switzerland’s busiest airport.

Swissport International AG has secured the ground handling licence at Zurich Airport for another seven years until 2032 after an extensive tender process. The licence allows Swissport to continue providing services such as passenger check-in, boarding, baggage handling, aircraft pushback, de-icing, lounge hospitality, and air cargo logistics. The renewal ensures continuity of ground services for airlines at Switzerland’s busiest airport.
Swissport has been operating at Zurich Airport since 1996 and employs 2,300 people. In 2024, it served over 24.6 million passengers and handled more than 187,000 flights.
"We are delighted to continue our successful collaboration with Zurich Airport. This licence renewal guarantees operational stability and reaffirms Swissport’s expertise in hub handling for Swiss International Air Lines," said Warwick Brady, President & CEO of Swissport International.
Swissport is the only ground handler in Zurich with a collective labour agreement and has been investing in electric ground support equipment. Currently, 44% of its fleet at Zurich Airport is electric, with plans to exceed 55% by the end of 2025. Globally, the company aims to reach 55% electric vehicles by 2032 and net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
The company is expanding its operations across key airports. Swissport is set to launch operations at Frankfurt Airport on 1 February 2025. It has also extended its ground handling licence at Geneva Airport and secured a licence to provide passengers with Reduced Mobility (PRM) services there. "With a strong customer base and deep operational expertise, Swissport has been a trusted partner at Zurich Airport for 29 years," said Bruno Stefani, CEO, Swissport Switzerland, Italy & France.
