GXO to operate London Luton Airport's first consolidation centre
The consolidation centre is intended to centralise the flow of goods entering the airside zone.

GXO Logistics and London Luton Airport have entered a partnership under which GXO will operate the airport’s first consolidation centre to screen and manage all airside deliveries. The facility will oversee deliveries destined for retail outlets, restaurants and operational areas within the terminal as passenger traffic and cargo volumes continue to rise.
London Luton Airport handled more than 17.5 million passengers in 2025, compared with 16.7 million in 2024. The consolidation centre is intended to centralise the flow of goods entering the airside zone and support the handling of hundreds of thousands of deliveries each year. GXO will take responsibility for screening, coordinating and delivering consignments ranging from fashion and cosmetics to electronics and items required for airport operations.
“We are excited to partner with London Luton Airport on its first consolidation centre,” said Martin Cooper, Managing Director, Technology and Consumer Goods, at GXO UK and Ireland. “As air travel continues to grow, consolidation centres play a pivotal role in driving efficiencies and improving sustainability for airport groups.”
Neil Thompson, Chief Operations Officer at London Luton Airport, said the project will allow the airport to manage deliveries through a central hub. “The opening of a dedicated, purpose-built consolidation centre provides London Luton Airport with a smarter, more efficient and streamlined logistical approach to managing the hundreds of thousands of goods that are delivered to over 40 shops and restaurants across the airport each year.”
The consolidation centre will operate from one of three hangars undergoing refurbishment as part of an £11.5 million programme that also includes aircraft engineering and repair hangars. The project is expected to create 150 jobs at the airport.
Airport concessionaires will receive customer service support through track and trace notifications, direct contact with the centre and continuous access to a support team. GXO will deploy its STREAM system, described as Secure, Technical, Real Time, Electronic Alerts and Messaging, to monitor service levels and provide performance data. The system will also allow delivery schedules to be adjusted and support handling of multi temperature goods and priority items.
The partnership marks an expansion of GXO’s airport logistics activities in the UK and Republic of Ireland. The company has operated consolidation centres at major airports since 2006, focusing on managing deliveries and supporting retail supply chains within terminals.
