How Emirates used retired aircraft parts to rebuild Arsenal football club’s famous crest

X

What happens when retired aircraft parts meet one of football’s most iconic symbols?

Emirates Engineering has transformed retired aircraft materials into a striking Arsenal crest, created in just 34 days by a team of 15 engineers, designers, mechanics, technicians and painters. From an Airbus A380 landing gear wheel hub and titanium bleed-air ducting to Boeing 777 fuselage skin and aircraft windows, aviation components have been given a new life as a symbol of Arsenal’s heritage.

The crest was then flown from Emirates’ Dubai hub to Emirates Stadium in London.

At the heart of the story is Arsenal’s famous cannon — a symbol that dates back to the club’s Woolwich roots in 1886.

While football fans debate on who will win tonight’s opening match of Premier League between Arsenal and Coventry in Emirates Stadium, in this episode of Business of Cargo, we explore how aviation engineering, football heritage and sustainability come together in a unique project marking 20 years of the Arsenal–Emirates partnership.
