Air India has diverted several U.S., North American, and European-bound flights due to the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran, which has led to widespread airspace closures in the region. Iran was the first to shut its airspace, followed by Jordan and Iraq.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Air India said: “Due to the emerging situation in Iran, the subsequent closure of its airspace and in view of the safety of our passengers, the following Air India flights are either being diverted or returning to their origin.”

IndiGo has also announced that, due to the airspace closure over Iran, some flight routes may be impacted, potentially leading to longer travel times or cancellations.

The conflict has also affected several Middle Eastern and European carriers. Emirates has cancelled flights to and from Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, and Iran. Qatar Airways temporarily suspended services to Iran, Iraq, and Syria. Oman Air cancelled its scheduled flights between Muscat and Amman for the day.

Among European carriers, Lufthansa has suspended all flights to and from Tehran, while Air France, Swiss, and KLM have also suspended operations to Tel Aviv.

FlightRadar24 data shows that airlines are now completely avoiding Iranian airspace and are instead routing flights through the airspace of countries such as the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt.

Meanwhile, in the Air India Boeing 787-8 crash, investigators have recovered the black box of flight AI171 from the crash site, where it was found on a rooftop. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has begun its investigation at full capacity.

The DGCA has also ordered Air India to carry out additional maintenance actions on its Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 aircraft, which are powered by GEnx engines.
