Pangea Logistics Network partners successfully move OOG shipment

Jan 24, 2019: Blue Freight Service, a member of the Pangea Logistics Network in Germany, was involved in the movement of an out-of-gauge (OOG) shipment along with its counterparts in Belgium, COBELAIR, and US, Express Air Freight (Houston). The shipment comprised a tailor-made shelter for a production line outlining dimensions 498x251x295 cm plus 178x121x123 cm and weighing 4120 kg.

The customer had packed the shelter into a crate but given its odd measurements, it could not fit into any cargo flight in the airlines network, and hence, it was to be part chartered, which was out of the customer's budget. Blue Freight Service then proposed an innovative and cost effective solution that included re-packaging the cargo into crates, which would then be able to fit into a B747-8 freighter. The cargo, valued %u20AC900K, was insured and the crates flew on a direct flight LUX-IAH.

Cobelair handled the collection of the crates via flatbed trailer, took charge of the security checks and delivered to the airline at Luxembourg International Airport (LUX).

At Houston International Airport (IAH), the Express Air Freight team arranged and supervised the loading operations and delivered the crates to a free trade zone in Geismar, LA.

They had only a margin of six days to complete the whole project as per the customer's requirements, and his production was already behind the schedule. But with efficient operations by all involved parties, the shipment was moved successfully.
