Maersk opened a 165,000 sq ft ground freight facility in Fontana, California, to expand its North America network, improve trucking and distribution across Southern California, support customer growth, and strengthen integrated logistics by positioning the hub in the Inland Empire to cut turnaround times and improve regional connectivity.

The Fontana site operates 24/7 and includes 22 docks and bays and a fleet of 18 vehicles. Maersk said the location can reduce turnaround times by up to five hours while offering access to the Ontario corridor, about 2.5 hours inland, alongside Los Angeles International Airport.

The facility connects with Maersk’s Inland Empire Contract Logistics campus, giving customers access to warehousing and distribution services. It also links with existing ground freight stations in Sacramento, San Francisco, San Diego, and Los Angeles, extending coverage across California.

The hub has direct access to Interstates 10 and 15, rail connections, and proximity to Ontario International Airport, supporting regional and interstate freight movements.

Bob Livingston, head of Maersk Ground Freight Operations, said the Fontana expansion strengthens delivery capabilities for customers and supports Maersk’s integrated logistics strategy across North America.

Maersk said the Fontana team also works with local organisations to support families, children, and individuals in need, as well as logistics operations.

The company operates more than 65 ground freight facilities across North America and provides door-to-door logistics with a single point of contact. A.P. Moller-Maersk operates in over 130 countries and employs around 100,000 people globally.
