Torsten Wefers has stepped down as Vice President Sales and Marketing at Liège Airport after four years in the role, marking a leadership transition at one of Europe’s cargo-focused airports. The airport has appointed Frederic Brun as Interim Vice President Sales and Marketing, while Alexis Lapot has taken over as Head of Commercial Cargo and Logistics. The changes took effect in March 2026.

Wefers confirmed his departure in a LinkedIn post, reflecting on his tenure at the Belgian cargo hub. “Today I will close a chapter that has shaped me in more ways than I could have imagined. After four years as Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Liege Airport, it’s time for me to step back, take a breath, and enjoy a well-deserved pause before starting my next professional adventure.”

During his tenure, Wefers was responsible for the commercial and strategic development of Liège Airport and led the commercial and airground service units. He was also a member of the airport’s management committee, reporting directly to the chief executive. His role focused on strengthening the airport’s position in the cargo market through route development, partnerships and long-term planning.

Under his leadership, Liège Airport increased its cargo throughput from about one million tonnes in 2023 to about 1.32 million tonnes in 2025. The airport also expanded cargo routes and partnerships and advanced infrastructure planning through the Masterplan 2040 programme aimed at supporting future capacity and operations.

Reflecting on the period, Wefers highlighted the work carried out by the airport community in strengthening Liège’s cargo position. “Looking back, I feel an immense sense of pride. These years have been intense, transformative, and deeply meaningful. Together with exceptional colleagues and partners, we achieved milestones that strengthened LGG’s position as a leading European cargo hub.”

During his time at the airport, Liège also introduced the Cargoland brand to represent its cargo ecosystem and launched LGG Connect, an association that brings together stakeholders from the airport’s cargo community. Wefers currently serves as chairman of the LGG Connect organisation.

He also emphasised the role played by the people involved in the airport’s operations. “But beyond the achievements, what I will cherish most are the people. The teams who give their best every day, the partners who believe in the mission, and the colleagues who made every challenge feel surmountable. Working alongside you has been an honour.”

As part of the leadership transition, Frederic Brun has taken over as Vice President Sales and Marketing. Brun previously served as Head of Commercial Cargo and Logistics at Liège Airport and had earlier held management roles at DSV – Global Transport and Logistics, DB Schenker, Rhenus Logistics, Safmarine and A.P. Moller – Maersk.

Alexis Lapot has succeeded Brun as Head of Commercial Cargo and Logistics. Lapot joined Liège Airport in 2022 as Senior Manager Cargo Sales and previously worked with Worldwide Flight Services and CAL Cargo Airlines in commercial and operational roles within the air cargo sector.

Wefers said he would take time before moving into his next role. “As I prepare for my next role, I carry with me gratitude, humility, and a deep appreciation for what we built together as one big team. I’m excited for what comes next, but first, a moment to breathe, reflect, and recharge.”
