LGG has announced the launch of CargoLand, a €500 million cargo infrastructure project that will be fully completed by 2040 at its airport in Belgium. The project aims to redefine air cargo handling through digital solutions, advanced equipment, multimodal transport links, and sustainable development.

LGG is currently Europe’s fifth largest cargo airport and intends to become one of the top three in the region. CargoLand was launched to bring together all air cargo stakeholders, including airlines, handlers, forwarders, logistics service providers, and public entities, to support cooperation and long-term growth.

CargoLand will cover 90 hectares dedicated to logistics development and include 24 hectares for office space. A 38,000 m² first-line warehouse, 120,000 m² for e-commerce, and 180,000 m² of landside warehouse will support cargo processing and last-mile deliveries. Plans also include 15 new parking stands for ground support equipment and an in-house maintenance hangar to support aircraft turnaround times.

Frederic Brun, Head of Commercial Cargo & Logistics at LGG, said, “We have considered every detail within the supply chain to ensure that CargoLand delivers the ultimate in infrastructure and digital solutions to enable the smoothest and fastest cargo handling and turnaround times.” He added, “Seamless multimodal integration will play a major role in CargoLand.”

The LGG Connect initiative, part of the CargoLand vision, seeks to unify airport partners under the theme “Support, Share, Grow”. The project’s objective is to enhance LGG’s role in Europe’s cargo ecosystem through continuous and sustainable infrastructure development.

According to Torsten Wefers, Vice President Sales & Marketing at LGG, "CargoLand is the premier destination for handling your cargo. That is the vision we have been working towards – that whenever people need to send freight to and from Europe, LGG’s fully sustainable CargoLand is the first place they think of.”
