TIACA names Cargojet founder Ajay Virmani to Hall of Fame
Under Virmani’s leadership, Cargojet built a domestic overnight network connecting businesses and communities across Canada while extending its reach into overseas markets.
The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) has announced Ajay Virmani, Founder and Executive Chairman of Cargojet, as the recipient of the 2026 TIACA Hall of Fame Award. The award recognises individuals whose leadership and contributions have shaped the global air cargo industry.
TIACA said Virmani’s career reflects the growth of Canada’s air cargo sector and the wider logistics industry. After immigrating to Canada, he entered the transportation and logistics business through his family’s trucking operations before moving into aviation and air cargo. In 2002, he founded Cargojet, which has since developed into Canada’s overnight air cargo airline and expanded its international operations.
Under Virmani’s leadership, Cargojet built a domestic overnight network connecting businesses and communities across Canada while extending its reach into overseas markets. The company has also strengthened its position in the international air freight market through partnerships with global customers and operators.
TIACA noted that Virmani has become recognised for his long-term approach to strategy, operational management, and customer relationships. The association stated that his leadership helped position Cargojet as a recognised global cargo carrier serving international supply chains and freight markets.
“Ajay Virmani’s journey is a remarkable example of vision, perseverance, and leadership. From humble beginnings to building one of the world’s most respected cargo airlines, his contribution to the air cargo industry has been both transformational and enduring. Through his commitment to operational excellence, innovation, and people, Ajay has helped shape the future of our industry and inspired generations of leaders across the global air cargo community,” said Roos Bakker, Chair of The International Air Cargo Association.
“Ajay’s story is one of determination, resilience, and innovation. He has built Cargojet into a critical pillar of Canada’s supply chain while consistently championing safety, reliability, and industry collaboration. His leadership extends beyond business success through his philanthropic efforts and his support for the broader aviation and healthcare communities,” said Glyn Hughes.
“It is a privilege to receive this recognition from TIACA and from an industry that has been such an important part of my life. While this honour carries my name, it truly belongs to the incredible people who have helped build Cargojet into what it is today. This recognition reflects the commitment, professionalism, and dedication of our entire team, as well as the trust and support of our customers and partners over the years. I remain incredibly proud of what we have built together and excited for the future of our industry,” said Ajay Virmani.
Virmani has received several recognitions during his career, including his appointment to the Order of Canada in 2024 and induction into Canada's Walk of Fame in 2021.
TIACA said the award will be presented during its 2026 Hall of Fame celebration at the TIACA Executive Summit, scheduled to take place from June 1 to 3 in Warsaw.
