Silk Way Alat Free Economic Zone Company (SW AFEZCO) has signed a design and build agreement with Modern Construction Group, marking a key milestone in the development of the Silk Way Cargo Village.

The state-of-the-art project will be located within the Alat Free Economic Zone (AFEZ), an initiative that emphasises Azerbaijan’s commitment to becoming a global hub for logistics and cargo services, says an official release.

Modern Group will design and construct three key facilities that will form part of the Silk Way Cargo Village: a cargo terminal, the Silk Way office building and a shared freight forwarder facility, the release added.

"This agreement marks a transformative step toward establishing Azerbaijan as a premier global logistics hub," says Jawad Dbila, Managing Director, SW AFEZCO. "The fully automated 30,000 square metre cargo terminal, the largest in the Caspian Sea region, will set new standards in sustainable construction and enhance trade connectivity between Europe and Asia, solidifying Azerbaijan's strategic role in the global logistics network."

Arif Guliyev, Director, Modern Construction Group adds: "We are honoured to collaborate with Silk Way AFEZCO on this transformative project. Our expertise in delivering complex infrastructure projects will ensure that the Silk Way Cargo Village becomes a sustainable beacon of Azerbaijan’s logistics ecosystem."

The project is scheduled for completion by July 2026, the release added.
