LATAM launched airlift for Venezuela earthquake relief
LATAM Airlines Group deployed emergency cargo and passenger flights to transport 100 tonnes of humanitarian aid and more than 170 responders to Venezuela.
LATAM Airlines Group launched a humanitarian airlift to assist relief efforts following the recent earthquake in Venezuela, deploying a two freighter aircraft and a special passenger aircraft under its Solidarity Plane programme.
Airlines arranged two dedicated cargo flights, scheduled to operate between Saturday night and Tuesday. The freighter aircraft will carry approximately 100 tonnes of humanitarian aid from international organisations to Venezuela.
The relief cargo includes equipment for a field hospital, water and sanitation systems, power generators, hospital beds, triage equipment, personal protective equipment (PPE), and other essential medical supplies required to support rescue and recovery efforts.
To reinforce the emergency response, the passenger flight, scheduled on June 27, departed from Bogota to Caracas and transported more than 170 emergency responders free of charge. Those who travelled included firefighters, rescue personnel, medical teams, and disaster response specialists from Colombia, Chile, Brazil, Ecuador, and Peru, along with representatives from Colombian humanitarian foundations supporting relief operations in the affected areas.
The humanitarian operation is being carried out through LATAM Group's Solidarity Plane programme, which provides free air transport for humanitarian organisations and public institutions during natural disasters and emergencies across South America. By leveraging its passenger and cargo network, the airline aims to facilitate the rapid deployment of emergency teams and critical relief supplies to communities affected by the earthquake.
