Frankfurt-Hahn Airport and Aktau International Airport have signed a partnership agreement aimed at building cooperation in the cargo sector and strengthening trade links between Germany and Kazakhstan.

The operators, TRIWO Hahn Airport GmbH and Aktau International Airport Joint Stock Company, said the initial phase of the partnership has already produced results. Two cargo flights have been completed, and two more are scheduled. Additional flights are being planned as both sides explore freight opportunities between the regions.

The agreement also sets out plans for the airports to share knowledge about processes in technology, security, customer service, and operations. This exchange will cover both cargo and passenger operations and is intended to support wider commercial ties between the two countries.

Frankfurt-Hahn Airport operates around the clock and serves production and logistics centres across the European Union. Its location positions it as a gateway for flows to the Middle East and Asia. In the first half of 2025, the airport handled more than 50,000 tonnes of cargo. TRIWO AG has owned the airport since May 2023.

Aktau International Airport in western Kazakhstan is positioned near the Caspian Sea and aims to grow as a transit freight hub on the Europe-Asia route. It provides 24-hour customs and border control and plans to add a direct rail connection. The airport handles domestic and international passenger services and has the capacity to expand its cargo terminal.

“We are committed to the continuous development of our airport and are always seeking valuable cooperation partners. We are highly anticipating this new partnership with Frankfurt-Hahn Airport. Our face-to-face meeting in Germany was an excellent and promising start to our collaborative journey,” said Meruyert Zholdybayeva, General Manager of Aktau International Airport.

“Through its partnership with Aktau International Airport, Frankfurt-Hahn Airport is expanding its global network,” said Rüdiger Franke, Managing Director and CEO of Hahn Airport. “We are very excited about the opportunities this cooperation will bring. I am convinced that both airports can support each other in many ways and will benefit immensely from our mutual exchange of expertise.”
