In a major development, Ramesh Mamidala, Head of Cargo at Air India, is stepping down from his role, according to sources. Mamidala has been serving in this position since March 2023 and brings extensive experience in the aviation industry. Prior to joining Air India, he worked as Chief Cargo Officer at Adani Airports Holdings Limited for nearly four years. He has also held senior leadership roles at companies such as Celebi, Qatar Airways, and Emirates.

Despite repeated reminders, Air India and Mamidala have not provided a response to The STAT Trade Times regarding its request for confirmation.

The other person who has left the airline is Sanjeev Kapoor, former Assistant Vice President of Product Development at Air India, who has now joined Unilode Aviation Solutions as Director. The company manages the world’s largest outsourced fleet of ULDs and operates the largest global network for the maintenance and repair of containers, pallets, and in-flight food service equipment. Kapoor has also previously worked with Lufthansa Cargo for nearly 35 years, where his last role was Head of Sales and Handling for Northern and Eastern India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan.

The reasons behind Mamidala’s exit are not clear. Earlier, Sudeep Narayan, who served as Head of International Sales Cargo at Air India, left in December 2024 after about 16 months with the airline.

As of now, it remains to be seen who will take over as the next Head of Cargo for the carrier. However, two key appointments have recently been made in Air India’s cargo division. Vibhor Gupta joined as Vice President and Commercial Head, Cargo in April 2025, while Gagan Gupta took charge as Head, Cargo Operations in May 2025. Before joining Air India, Vibhor was associated with Chalo as CFO, while Gagan was with Tata Motors as Business Head, Fleetedge.
