The Airforwarders Association (AfA) has cautiously welcomed the reported peace framework between the United States and Iran, saying the development could help ease economic pressure on consumers and businesses in the US while supporting stability across global markets.

The association noted that a reduction in geopolitical tensions could improve confidence in international trade and logistics operations, which have been affected by uncertainty in the region. AfA also emphasised the importance of maintaining secure and efficient global supply chains, as continued stability would benefit the wider economy and the air cargo industry.

However, AfA has called for greater clarity and stability following the reported peace framework between the United States and Iran, as the air cargo industry awaits details on the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the enforcement of safe passage through the critical trade route.

With a memorandum of understanding expected to be signed on June 19, the association said the situation remains fluid and that significant developments could still occur. AfA highlighted the efforts of freight forwarders and the wider air cargo sector in maintaining supply chain resilience, ensuring the movement of time-critical shipments, and adapting to rapidly changing operational conditions.

The association stressed that recent geopolitical events have reinforced the strategic importance of air cargo, describing it as an essential service that supports economic stability, emergency response, and national resilience, beyond its commercial role.

AfA also noted that US freight forwarders have faced prolonged disruptions due to government shutdowns, tariff-related challenges, and ongoing conflict in the Middle East. It urged policymakers to restore certainty, stability, and predictable trade policies to enable businesses to plan investments and move goods with confidence.

The association said it will continue to monitor developments closely and work with legislators, regulators, and industry stakeholders to support policies that protect cargo flows and facilitate global trade.
