Oman Air has appointed Nasser Al Sharji as its new Chief Executive Officer.
Al Sharji brings more than 25 years of executive leadership experience across key sectors. He has held senior positions at ASYAD Group, OQ and Nama Water Services, where he led national projects and organisational transformation initiatives.
Most recently, Al Sharji served as Chief Executive Officer of Transom and Acting Chief Executive Officer of Oman Airports. He holds an Executive MBA and has also served as a board member and chairman of various committees across multiple sectors.
Commenting on the appointment, Saeed Al Mawali, Chairman of Oman Air and Oman’s Minister of Transformation, Communications and Information Technology, said Al Sharji brings extensive leadership experience, a strong understanding of the aviation sector and a proven track record of leading organisations through transformation and change.
“We are confident that, under his leadership, Oman Air will continue to build on the significant progress achieved in recent years and further strengthen its position as Oman’s national carrier,” Al Mawali said.
Al Mawali also expressed his appreciation to Con Korfiatis, who has served as Oman Air’s Chief Executive Officer since May 2024, for his leadership during one of the most significant periods of transformation in the airline’s history.
Under Korfiatis’ leadership, Oman Air made progress towards greater financial sustainability, operational efficiency and organisational effectiveness, while continuing to strengthen its position in an increasingly competitive industry.
Korfiatis will continue to support Oman Air as Advisor to the CEO, providing continuity and guidance as the airline moves forward.
The appointment comes as Oman Air continues to expand its network and cargo operations. In August, Oman Air Cargo introduced five new routes within one week, adding services from Muscat to Singapore and Tashkent, along with routes to Sochi and Abu Dhabi and a regional connection between Salalah and Dubai.
The new routes included four weekly flights to Singapore, two weekly flights to Tashkent, one weekly flight to Sochi, daily flights to Abu Dhabi and three weekly flights between Dubai and Salalah. Oman Air Cargo said the expansion would strengthen its perishables and cold-chain capabilities.
Earlier this year, Oman Air Cargo also created a new senior commercial role for the Middle East and Gulf with the appointment of Gokul Sudamani as Regional Head of Sales. Based in Dubai, the role was created to strengthen relationships with freight forwarders and support the growth of the airline’s regional cargo network.
