Exim, transhipments boost Changi Q2 cargo volume by 16%
Changi’s top five air cargo markets were Australia, China, Hong Kong, India and the U.S.
Singapore Changi Airport handled 486,000 tonnes of air freight from April to June 2024, an increase of 16 percent compared to the same period last year by 16 percent.
"Growth was registered across all cargo flows – exports, imports and transhipments, led by strong cargo flows between Singapore and China as well as the United States of America. For this period, Changi’s top five air cargo markets were Australia, China, Hong Kong, India and United States of America."
Changi Airport handled 157,000 tonnes in June, an increase of 16 percent compared to the same month last year. Compared to the pre-Covid period, cargo handled was down three percent as against 162,000 tonnes in June 2019, says an official release.
For the first half of 2024, cargo handled increased 15 percent to 961,000 tonnes from 834,000 tonnes in H12023.
For the full year of 2023, Changi had handled 1.7 million tonnes, down 13 percent from the pre-covid level of two million tonnes in 2019.
Other highlights
"Changi Airport welcomed Shandong Airlines, which started 3x weekly services between Jinan and Singapore on April 19, and Air Japan which commenced 5x weekly services between Tokyo Narita Airport and Singapore on April 26.
On 1 May, Emirates extended one of its four daily Dubai-Singapore services to Phnom Penh."
As on July 1, 2024, 94 airlines operate over 6,900 weekly scheduled flights at Changi Airport, connecting Singapore to 158 cities in 50 countries and territories worldwide, the release added.
