March 19, 2018: Vietjet Air is all set to make Brisbane as its first Australian long haul destination, and also plans to commence direct flight services from Ho Chi Minh City, starting 2019.

Vietjet Air is the first international low cost airline to join the Brisbane Airport family, which will offer a new destination from one of the Association of Southeast Asian Nation’s (ASEAN) fastest growing economies.

The announcement was made recently after the signing of a MoU between Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) and Madam Nguyen Thi Thuy Binh, vice president, Vietjet Air.

BAC secured services with the support of the Queensland government under the Attracting Aviation Investment Fund (AAIF), along with Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ) partner, and Trade and Investment Queensland (TIQ).

Julieanne Alroe, CEO and managing director, Brisbane Airport Corporation, said that travel between Queensland and Vietnam has been growing at an average eight percent per annum over the last five years, and the new services is set to further stimulate the market.

“It makes perfect sense for Vietjet Air to choose Brisbane, Queensland as it first Australian port for direct flights to Ho Chi Minh City, which is Brisbane’s top five markets without direct services. The economic growth of Vietnam is impressive. The new services will further facilitate education, tourism, investment, and trade opportunities with Vietnam, and will benefit Brisbane, and Queensland region,” said Alroe.

“We welcome Vietjet Air to the Brisbane Airport family, which will further strengthen ties between Queensland and Vietnam,” said Alroe.

“Vietjet has been well prepared with comfortable, high-quality and friendly services to expand its international flight network to top destinations, connecting Vietnam’s business and tourism hubs with Asia Pacific countries, including Australia,” said Binh.

“We are proud to be the pioneer airline to operate direct services from Vietnam to Brisbane, along with a dynamic business centre with friendly people, pleasant weather and living conditions, which is attractive for international travellers, especially those from Asia,” said Binh.

“Vietjet is committed to making a new and lively aviation wave by offering brand new and friendly services and safe flights, thus contributing to the development of tourism, investment and trade exchange between Vietnam and Australia,” she added.
