Turkish Cargo breaks record for maximum cargo carried on Boeing 777 'preighter'

Turkish Cargo has set a new world record for the maximum cargo carried on a Boeing 777 'preighter'. The cargo carrier lifted 67,340 kilos of cargo from Afghanistan to China, Spain, Germany, France and Italy on November 10. The cargo, which was loaded in the lower deck of the 'preighter', included dried fruits and nuts, which were loaded on 14 pallets and safely delivered to all the countries at one stretch.

With this successful attempt, Turkish Cargo has broken the previous record held by Emirates SkyCargo, which on April 23 carried 66 tonnes of cargo that included a mix of general cargo, perishables and sanitisers, during the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic. It was loaded on 12 pallets and six containers. Interestingly, the Dubai-headquartered cargo carrier had broken its own record from March when it had loaded its lower deck with just over 62 tonnes of cargo transported from Karachi in Pakistan to Dubai for the first time on a Boeing 777-300ER passenger aircraft.

However, Turkish Cargo has now become the latest entrant into the record books with its recent successful attempt, after Emirates SkyCargo had held the position throughout the year. Both the carriers have managed to carry out the humungous task amidst the increasing demand for freighters due to the Covid-19 pandemic crisis.
