The BLG LOGISTICS GROUP has decided to strategically focus in future on national and international business in the contract, automobile and container business areas. Rhenus Air and Ocean is strengthening its presence in Germany with the planned takeover of the forwarding business of the logistics company BLG International Forwarding GmbH & Co KG. With the acquisition, Rhenus is opening up new business areas and making its global network available to the BLG Group. Subject to the approval of the antitrust authorities, Rhenus will acquire nine air and sea freight locations on April 1, 2021.

The nine forwarding locations of BLG International Forwarding with around 100 employees are to be integrated into the existing network of Rhenus Air & Ocean in Germany, which currently comprises twelve branches, from the beginning of April. These include locations in Hamburg and Bremerhaven, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Stuttgart and Munich. In future, more volumes can be processed via the LCL gateway in Hilden and the air freight hub in Frankfurt.

“With Rhenus Air & Ocean, we have gained a strong partner who with its global presence, provides our customers with an extensive network,” says Jens Wollesen, board member for Contract at BLG LOGISTICS. He adds, “With the sale of our forwarding business, BLG is strategically adapting to changed market conditions. Even if we will no longer have a nationwide freight forwarding service in Germany, we will continue to offer extensive international services in the fields of contract, automobiles and containers. “

“In the past few years we have set the course for the continuous expansion of our air and sea freight activities. With the additional locations, employees and business activities, we are consolidating our network in the Air and Ocean sector in Germany. In addition, we would like to develop new lines of business such as the transport of food through reefer shops and activities in the area of ??trade fair and event logistics, ”says Stefan Schwind, managing director of Rhenus Air & Ocean Germany.

The shipping location of BLG in Bremen, which focuses on land transport, heavy goods transport, project business and sea freight, is excluded from the takeover.
