April 04, 2018: The airfreight industry mourns the loss of an industry stalwart Mark Whitehead who passed away in his sleep whilst competing in the China Sea Race, a yacht race that ended on Sunday.

He retired as Hactl’s chief executive on March 7 this year. Unfortunately, this news comes just three weeks after his retirement.

A member of the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club for nearly 35 years, Mark served on the General Committee and was Commodore from 2014 to 2016, said Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club on its Facebook page. “A force of energy and fun, he was a passionate sailor, spending most weekends class racing on Etchells and also a keen offshore sailor to competing in many offshore races on Orient Express and Straight Up, among others,” the Club added.

Mark Whitehead joined Hactl in 2010. Under Whitehead's leadership, Hactl continued its investment and modernisation programmes, achieved many firsts in the industry and won a host of industry awards.

Mark Whitehead was a committed supporter of the STAT Media Group. He has been a regular contributor to STAT Media publications with valuable and incisive industry insights. He will be greatly missed. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family at their moment of grief.
