Kuehne+Nagel opens healthcare logistics centre in Frankfurt

Kuehne+Nagel has opened a 3,505 sq m healthcare logistics centre at Frankfurt Airport, with controlled room temperature, cold chain and ultra-low temperature storage.

Kuehne+Nagel has opened a new healthcare logistics centre at Frankfurt Airport to expand its capacity for handling temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical and healthcare products.

The 3,505 sq m facility is located in Cargo City South within a Kuehne+Nagel-owned 13,000 sq m complex. It has direct tarmac access and connections to cargo handling areas to support faster transfers.

The HealthChain-certified centre includes around 2,500 sq m of controlled room temperature storage at +15°C to +25°C and more than 500 sq m of cold chain storage at +2°C to +8°C. It also has ultra-low temperature freezers for products stored at -70°C.

The facility includes temperature-controlled staging areas and specialised pharmaceutical truck handling facilities. It is GDP-compliant and forms part of Kuehne+Nagel’s global network of more than 270 HealthChain-certified locations.

The investment follows other healthcare logistics developments in Frankfurt. Earlier this year, Frankfurt was added to Kuehne+Nagel’s Inspire Boeing 747-8F freighter network, while the Frankfurt-Atlanta Cool Corridor for temperature-sensitive healthcare shipments was also launched.

Martin Schaefer, SVP Air Logistics Germany at Kuehne+Nagel, said the investment expands specialised infrastructure to support the growing movement of temperature-sensitive medicines worldwide.
