Perot Company, Hillwood, has started construction on a new 334,800-sq-ft logistics facility near the Chicago Rockford International Airport, marking the first phase of the Rockford Logistics Park 20 development.
Located approximately one mile from the airport, the facility is designed to support a range of industrial activities, including air cargo, logistics, distribution, light manufacturing, and assembly operations. The flexible building can accommodate either a single occupant or multiple tenants, catering to a variety of business requirements.
The project is expected to strengthen the region's logistics infrastructure by expanding industrial space close to one of the Midwest's key air cargo gateways, enhancing connectivity for freight, manufacturing, and distribution operations.
Zack Oakley, Executive Director, Chicago Rockford International Airport
Zack Oakley, Executive Director, Chicago Rockford International Airport, said, “Developments like this complement the airport's cargo operations by providing additional capacity for businesses looking to take advantage of Rockford's dedicated cargo infrastructure and connectivity."
Hillwood said Rockford was selected for its strong accessibility, efficient operating environment and dedicated air cargo infrastructure, which provide logistics users with convenient access to major markets and make the region an attractive location for industrial development. The project is on track for completion in 2027.
As one of the top 20 U.S. cargo airports by gross landed weight, Chicago Rockford International Airport (RFD) handles about 85 freighter flights daily, offering an uncongested gateway for cargo moving to and from Chicago, the Midwest, and global destinations. Operating 24/7, the airport provides low congestion, five-minute average taxi times, on-site customs clearance, self-handling options and significant capacity for future cargo growth.
