New AHS/Menzies terminal with Lödige automation boosts cargo capacity in Amman

In a move set to redefine cargo logistics in the Middle East, a brand-new, fully automated cargo terminal has been inaugurated at Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA), solidifying Jordan’s ambitions to become a major regional logistics hub.
The facility, developed by Aviation Handling Service (AHS) in partnership with global aviation services provider Menzies Aviation, features cutting-edge automated cargo handling technology supplied by Germany’s Lödige Industries. Spanning 8,000 square meters, the terminal is designed to handle 60,000 tonnes of cargo annually, a major leap in capacity and efficiency for QAIA.
The inauguration took place on June 11, 2025, under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Jaafer Hassan, Prime Minister of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and was attended by dignitaries and stakeholders from across the aviation and logistics sectors.
“This terminal is a cornerstone in our mission to position Queen Alia International Airport as a gateway for international and regional trade,” said Dominique Ceulemans, Managing Director at AHS Jordan. “By implementing Lödige’s advanced automation systems, we are ensuring faster, safer, and more reliable cargo handling operations.”
The new terminal is equipped with a fully automated storage system for 136 Unit Load Devices (ULDs), integrated with an Elevating Transfer Vehicle (ETV) to manage storage and retrieval with speed and accuracy. Additional features include ergonomic build and break workstations, high-density storage racks, and a ULD control system linked to Menzies’ latest Cargo Management System for real-time tracking and intelligent material flow.

With air cargo demand on the rise, particularly in e-commerce and regional trade, the launch of this advanced cargo terminal marks a significant step for Jordan in strengthening its global supply chain relevance and economic competitiveness.
